Mike McCloskey has been elected president of GCI-UICP, the European umbrella body for the mechanical services and plumbing industries.
McCloskey’s election follows the resignation of Swede Hakan Bergkvist, who assumed the presidency in September 2011, but resigned last month for business reasons.
McCloskey has been a member of the Council of B&ES - the Building & Engineering Services Association (formerly the HVCA) - since 1992, serving as president in 2006/07, and joined the GCI-UICP board in the autumn of last year.
He is also chairman of Welplan, the principal B&ES commercial subsidiary, a director of facilities services specialist Argent FM. And a former divisional managing director with national contractor Lorne Stewart Plc.
Meanwhile, José Marcos Hernandez of Spain and Karl Walter Schuster of Germany have joined the board of GCI-UICP, which is ”committed to improving understanding of the major concerns that are influencing technical contracting in the EU."
