Thomas & Friends stays on track with steel wire tray
11 August 2012

More than 2km of Cablofil steel wire tray has been used for the electrical installation at the Drayton Manor Hotel; the four-star hotel that has transformed Drayton Manor Theme Park from a fun day out into a destination.

The 150-room hotel includes 11 Thomas & Friends themed family rooms, restaurants, bars and a hospitality suite. All guest rooms have Freeview TV and Wi-Fi access and the electrical installation also included Wi-Fi data cabling throughout the common areas, lighting, power, fire alarms and a building management system. Opening on time was business critical for the client as bookings had been taken well in advance, so electrical contractor, Enterprise Electrical, requested a change of specification from the perforated steel tray nominated by the consultant to the Cablofil system.

Explains Martin Trecey from the project’s electrical contractor, Enterprise Electrical: “We have used the Cablofil system on lots of installations in the past so we knew how easy it is to work with, how fast it is to install and what a robust solution it can offer with ample load bearing capabilities. It reduced the time needed for the cable management installation by around a third and freed up skilled labour on site for more complex elements of the installation.  In fact, the reduced installation times may well have made the difference between completing on time and struggling to meet the deadline.”

Enterprise Electrical used Cablofil’s standard 54mm deep tray in widths ranging between 50mm and 300mm. The Cablofil steel wire tray was installed in the ceiling voids and as risers to carry the complex network of cables and the contractor reduced installation times still further by using dividers to form separate sections for small power and data cabling within a single run of basket. Thanks to the time savings the hotel was successfully handed over on time.
