Bosch expands solar production
The Bosch Group is significantly expanding its production of solar thermal systems. This year, the Thermotechnology division expects sales of more than 150,000 solar collectors, around 60 percent more than in 2006. Bosch is looking to more than double sales by 2009. "The sun provides us with an endless supply of energy, and Bosch already has the technology to use this efficiently," said Wolfgang Chur, member of the Bosch board of management whose responsibilities include the Thermotechnology division. This year, Bosch is looking to use solar and geothermal systems to boost sales overall by just under 100 million euros to 400 million euros. After wind power, solar thermal systems make the greatest contribution to meeting worldwide energy needs than other systems that use renewable energy. No CO2 emissions are produced during operation. Eco building gets help from Simons Group
Simons Group, in partnership with the University of Lincoln, Lindum Construction Group, Ward Cole Structural Engineers and local and regional governments, is assisting Hill Holt Wood to build an eco-friendly meeting and exhibition centre. The principal project funders are Lincolnshire Enterprise and the Waste Recycling Environment Network. To date Simons Design has donated £11,000 of ‘Pro Bono’ advice and professional support to the project, assisting in the creation of a workable scheme and helping the project throughout the planning process. Hill Holt Wood comprises 14 hectares of managed woodland on the Lincolnshire/ Nottinghamshire border. The wood is used extensively by the local community and hosts a variety of social and educational activities. The Woodland Community Hall is a flagship project demonstrating advanced sustainable construction practises and technologies.
